page changes

I am changing the chronological ahhhh pages to have the colored layouts instead of the individual ahhh. They will be linked to the website as before but this way you can easily see the drawings all in one place.

As I promised myself, I have not been sewing at all. Just going back and coloring from the beginning so that I can get these to the website. I posted 1-12 on the page that says 1-25 up above in that tab, but of those here are my favorite designs. Click over and see the rest of them!

I love the diversity of this block.

Secondary patterns shown here are so pretty.

Not a big seller because of all the tiny pieces but this one would be amazing in a runner or large quilt.

Stars, who can't love them?

Very simple, very pretty.

Ozarkian dream...

The other day when I spoke about dreams I forgot about one of the BIGGEST BESTEST opportunities yet. I can't do it but still..its one of those day dream kind of things.

Last time I went to Silver Dollar City, Stephen and Jerry were intently watching the blacksmith and I heard a conversation going on behind me. OH WAIT!  ... back up... the night before I had a dream. I really did dream this and tell Jerry about it. I dreamed that when we were in SDC (silver dollar city) that I would meet the owner and he would tell me just to come open a quilt shop there. He would cover the cost of supplying it and they would even give Jerry the job of Marshall (A SDC marshall has to be an ordained minister so that he can perform marriages. I know. I got married by one once. It wasn't to Jerry. We won't revisit that anymore, although here is the little chapel you can get married in...)

Anyway Mister Stephen was watching this man do his work.

And I was eavesdropping on the very interesting conversation going on behind my back. There was an owner of SDC talking to a couple explaining park workings behind the scenes and what makes SDC different than other theme parks. Now...lemme tell you. I have been to SDC literally HUNDREDS of times and have never run into an owner; much less dream about it then actually have it happen!!

So I stood there with my knees a knockin' all together and wringing my hands an frettin' and carryin on as to whether I should talk to this owner.

Well, I fretted too long because next thing I hear is him saying he had someone special for them to meet, and takes the couple into the candy shop.

I tell Jerry, "I'll be back I have someone important to talk to" and he stares at me like I am crazy as I run off.
Now the candy shop was just a few feet away, but in that time...they disappeared! If you are not familiar with the candy store at SDC the ladies spend the day making fudge and peanut brittle as you see above. Then they give you free samples to tempt you. But at this very moment, they had abandoned the cooking area and left me standing there staring like I was lost in la la land.

So I turned back around and went back to the blacksmith...a' prayin' all the way! I told God that I really didn't plan on having that dream the night before and then for real meeting a for real live owner! So, if God wants me to talk to the owner, then He has to bring the man back into my path.

We get all done watching blacksmiths and snitching samples at the candy shop. Then we spend quite a bit of time watching the glass blower guys do their thing.

Then we wandered on down the road. I chalked the entire dream thing up to me being completely crazy and decided to not think anything more about it.

Until I ran into the owner again. And this time I got brave. I introduced myself. Told him about Hillbilly Quilt Shop. Told him how I would LOVE to open a store inside SDC as there is no better place for Hillbilly Quilt Shop. And are you ready to fall over?? Do you know what the man said to me??

He said, "come open it!" Apparantly the owner of the current quilt shop is retiring after this year. (and frankly I don't care for the current shop as it is too modern to fit in with the SDC theme...ha look whos with my love of Yenter and Kona Bay. But still mine would have EPP! ).

He said for me to just call and talk to them.

Well, don't you know that I would in a HEARTBEAT if I could?

But, I can't. There is a prison near there that Jerry could transfer to, but the job openings are slim pickin's. That is the favorite prison in the entire state, so the positions are coveted. And, even if he did get to transfer, now how is this Hillbilly supposed to get all that inventory in stock for such a store with all that traffic???!!!

I tucked the dream away.
Maybe someday.

So between turning down Craftsy, and Jenny Doan getting my hopes all up and that being knocked out from under me and my book taken away and the SDC thing in my hand but not really, one would think it would be easy to get down in the dumps.

But, you know what? I am not. Not at all. Because something else is much more important to me and for a few years, I really don't have time for any of the above.

Here is where my biggest dreams lie. I yearn for the days when I was 'just a mommy'. "just a homeschooling mommy" since he is in preschool.
Back to the basics.
That's my biggest dream of all.

What to do and Where to go??!!

Over the last few months I have had so many thoughts on what our next move is as a family. At first, we wanted to buy that house around the corner.

Then we decided we need to move to Texas to care for Jerry's mom; but that didn't work out.

Then Jenny Doan of Mo Star quilt company offered to me (NOT the other way around) to open up a quilt shop. Since they own most of the next town, and I am into paper piecing she thought a hand work shop would be nice. Perfect! We waited. Sent letters. Waited. contacted. I guess Jenny's kids (who own the company) didn't agree with her idea of me running a hand work shop.

So, let down again, I was elated when Craftsy contacted me to teach classes. But I had to say no to that one. I have no one to watch Stephen for the several days to a week that filming would require.

Now we've been waiting for nearly 2 months to hear if Jerry is going to get a job 350 miles south of us. This is the final countdown. We will hear this week. I am wishy washy. Moving with a husband that is in poor health and getting away from his docs is hard. Moving away from any babysitting help I had (amy) is hard. Moving away from my older hard. But the job will be better for Jerry and the town will be a better place to raise Stephen. Who knows. Just waiting.

If he doesn't get that job...I want to go back to square one and buy the house around the corner. Seriously.

I will be counting and packaging the ahhhhs for myself again rather than having paper pieces do it. Sales have dropped off which of course will happen now that we are in the second 100. I am going to work hard on getting ALL of them in the shop. I am not going to sew, design, dream (thats not true..the dream part) or anything until all 304 of them are listed. Why? Gotta beat the book that is due out in the fall by I don't know who but still have to get my designs out there first.

After I get all the designs up on the website, I am going to work on a catalog. That way you can have a copy to view them all in one place. Sound good?

THEN I can get back to designing. I will probably design some before the catalog. I have this really beautiful runner in the works I need to share. And so many others I had for the book.

I have a video coming out at some point whenever my son and I can get together on it. I am proud of the content. Now if the filming and backdrop go well will be the biggie.

And that is your forever too busy hillbilly's happenings for now...

Daydreams: a free mug rug

Do you still have day dreams? What do you dream about? I dream about so many things...

Hiking again like I used to; only teaching the little boy about the beauty surrounding him.

Sewing whatever I want, whenever I want. Not being tied to a book. Seriously...I think about that often.

Living in a home with a nice yard and a dog or two to play with.

Opening a Hillbilly Handiworks shop with hand quilting, EPP, knitting, wool rug, twining..that list goes on and on...

Sometimes daydreaming can get discouraging if we let it. But we should look at them as a goal to work towards!

When I messaged Jessica of Pikaboo Crafts (on facebook) and asked her to help draw up the mug rugs, I especially did so because I knew of her beautiful embroidery work. Good thing I did. Because I have mug rug issues. My mug rug has been started and dumped twice. I need ALOT of embroidery practice. I finally gave up. There is no way I am showing you my mess of work. was bad.

No worries! Jessi has it covered...

When we were brainstorming, I told her that I like dandelions and they make me think of summer and wishes. She came up with the saying, and I love it!
It is kind of light in the photo but it says
"Don't give up your day dreams".

The mug rug is a simple 8x10 construction with Ahhhh #28
The embroidery goes all the way around the ahhhh, with blowing seedlings on each section. Its hard to see in the photo.
A link to the embroidery is below, and you will be able to see it better there.

Simple, but pretty. I hope that you enjoy our first mug rug!
We have another in the works already for next month. Its so cute. I hope I can do a better job on it than this time. It has..well I guess I can't tell you. I am going to get to work in case I need to make the thing 10 times to get it right!

Here is the pattern for you. Hopefully I did this correctly and all you have to do is click to print the pdf pattern. We would love to see your mug rugs!

Some coloring time

Several asked me to color some in for you. I don't really like to do that because I feel like it makes you not think as well what could be done with them, but here are the next ahhhhs in plain and in color. Enjoy the possibilities!

My new partner!! (giveaway: made ya look!))

For a very long time I have been hunting the perfect person to partner up with me to help sew up my English Paper Piecing designs. I know that several of you offered to help, and please do not be offended that I did not choose you. Many of you I never saw finished projects from; so therefore, I could not choose you. Some of you are over busy..just like me.

My first clue on who to choose was when I had a small contest for the book (not to be) and asked for people to make up a design using an Ahhhh. The above photo was the first entry that I received.

As time went on, I just kind of silently watched folks. I approached Jessica about doing some small projects for me for the other books and she got right on it. Had them finished in days. At that time, I knew she was the person I'd been looking for.

Jessica has been helping me design the up coming mug rugs and I found that she is a perfect fit. We can read each others mind. I can describe to her what I am thinking (but can't draw) and she can whip up the drawing.

She is always asking me how I come up with so many designs and ideas. Well, my mind never ever shuts off. When I am cutting fabric in the evenings it goes into overtime. Now Jessica can help those ideas become a reality!!

Now I am going to hand the post over to Jessica and let her tell you a bit about herself.

I am a stay at home mom with 3 kids (8,6 and 3) and have been happily married for 9 years.

About 15 years ago I taught myself to crochet and have been crafting ever since. It keeps me sane!  I now mostly do embroidery and quilting.

EPP is my favorite, especially since learning to glue baste.  It's so easy to take along everywhere and the kids like playing with the paper shapes when they need a distraction.

I started my Facebook page, Pikaboo Crafts,
last year to share my projects and eventually sell finished goodies and designs to help support my crafty habits.

Isn't Jessica amazing? And her beautiful.
Her facebook group could use some love, so if you will go like it on facebook and come back here and say so, then I'll enter you into a drawing for two mystery charm packs. These are new, hot off the press. I am not showing which ones because they are across the room (lazy) and I am not sure which ones I am going to give out..but regardless... I have two charm packs. :) I'll draw for them next Monday.

Give Jessi a warm welcome into my Hillbilly world and know that are BOTH working on getting this next book out much faster than the last attempt. :)

And when you see the free mug rug next week..then you will know she is the creative hand that drew it up for you!

Introducing a NEW Friend!!

I LOVE love LOVE the "Jewel" piece when doing English Paper Piecing designs. Starting with the new ahhhhs that are just being posted within the next couple of days, I will slowly be entering the jewel into my designs. It will not show up every month, but it will pop up here and there.
Factoid: I purposely saved the jewel to be used in the second set of 100 ahhhh designs. Why? It would have been a brand new piece to introduce in the second ahhhh book that is now not to be. No matter. Patterns coming!
(to be worked on after I move because I don't want to get all set up with a printing company only to have to find a new one.)

Here is what a Jewel looks like and you can find them HERE at Paper
Of course, I will be utilizing several sizes but this gives you an idea of what I am talking about. Fun times ahead!
